Quantity and Unit


Quantity and Unit

Quantity is something that can be measured and his unit, while Unit is anything serves to compare in a quantity. Thus, quantity and unit are related into each other. In Physic quantity is differentiated into two, basic quantity and derivative quantity. Based on the value and derection, quantity is classified into scalar quantity and vector quantity.
Basic Quantity
Basic Quantity is the base to make other quantities. In Conference Generate des Poids et Measure 1960, scientist agreed to generalize unit system known System International or SI. In the conference, 7 basic quantities were decided, like :
Basic Quantities > Unit Names in SI > Unit Symbols
Length > metre > m
Mass > kilogram > kg
Time > second > s
Electric Current > ampere > A
Amount of substance > mole > mol
Temperature > Kelvin > K
Luminous intensity > candela > Cd
Beside those seven quantities, there are also other quantities decides in the conference. The quantities are flat angel and room angel. Unit for flat angel is radium while unit for room angel is steradian.
Derivative Quantity
Derivative quantity  is quantity whose unit comes from two or more basic quantities. You can see in under this text:
